Welcome to Music for aMusic for a Better World is a student group at the Manhattan School of Music committed to making positive change through music. Through partnerships with local non-profits, MBW strives to provide students an opportunity to be active in the community, spread their passion for music, and help those in need. |
What We Do.
Music for a Better World primarily supports our non-profit partners by producing an annual Spring fundraiser concert, featuring amazing student groups from MSM.
In addition, MBW produces smaller events throughout the year, such as our beginning-of-the-year Charity Fair, charity presentations, tabling campaigns for disaster relief, food drives, and more.
MBW also organizes students to participate in various charity events throughout New York City. Whether it's volunteering at a homeless shelter for a day, or running a 5k, MBW will organize an MSM team to participate. The events that we participate in depend on interest from MSM students, so please let us know if there's an event you would like us to consider volunteering at!

Message from the MBW Presidents
As a student at MSM, it's easy to get caught up in the competitive and stressful nature of a music conservatory. There is so much pressure to audition well, to practice enough, and to secure opportunities at MSM and NYC.
As consuming as these stressful thoughts can be, your art can be deepened so much by exposing yourself to the world outside of your practice room. This city allows us to experience humanity in all of its complexities and variations, which will inform your creativity in ways you never imagined.
One of the best ways to connect with the city and your fellow New Yorkers is through charity and volunteering. Giving back to those in need is an extremely rewarding experience, and there are so many opportunities to do so here. Music for a Better World partners with incredible organizations, whose missions range from suicide prevention to ending hunger in NYC. We are always looking for new organizations to partner with, and new ways to make the world, and this city, a better place.
We hope that you will join us at Music for a Better World, and more importantly that you will take this time in college to figure out who you are and what you stand for, not just how good of a musician you are.
Love,
Erin Acree (BM Classical Bassoon '22) and Ethan Ostrow (BM Jazz Piano '22)
